Poetry month #27: Maps to common ground

Her name was Lucy and she’d always been a whore.
She walked the corner and was first to know the score.
She’d never found a price to make her leave the store –
She’d left her no behind a thousand years or more.

His name was Michael and he lead the squad for vice.
He only played the game when he controlled the dice.
He was the one that judges looked to for advice –
He’d never found a bribe that he found worth the price.

So who will rise and who will fall
Who’s the one who’ll find they’re always first to make the call
Whose perspective wins when all the chips are down
And can love really help us find some common ground?

He couldn’t bring her round to meet his friends for dinner
She couldn’t tell her mates that he was justice’s spinner
Although they told themselves their love would be the winner
They always argued over who’s the greater sinner.

So who will rise and who will fall
Who’s the one who’ll find they’re always first to make the call
Whose perspective wins when all the chips are down
And can our hungry hearts share secret maps to common ground?

Though both angels they were hardly of a feather
Even if they were both uncommonly fond of leather
But did the whips become the chains to try to sever
Well that’s a story that’s still not ended in forever and ever.

So who will rise and who will fall
Who’s the one who’ll find they’re always first to make the call
Whose perspective wins when all the chips are down
And can our hungry hearts share secret maps to common ground?
